If You Fall – Who Are You Going To Call?
This week we heard of a very luck lady, Alison Bywater, a horse rider, who fell from her steed and was found unconscious in a field by ladies in ball gowns returning from the local Hunt Ball.
Alison had been out hacking on her homebred 17.2hh gelding, Indie on the 21st January when he slipped whilst she was cantering in a field near her home in Kemsing, Kent. Alison fell off and was unconscious so unable to call for any help. Indie trotted off and was spotted on the road by Gina Weare, Josie Butler and Kitty Regan. Fortunately the ladies were of an equine background so took Indie to the local stables whilst also knowing to look for a rider. They found Alison and were able to call for help and keep her warm, wrapping her in a duvet.
We all know that we are at risk when we go riding and we usually take all necessary precautions, we wear our riding hat, high viz and tell someone where we are going along with taking our mobile phone with us. However, as in Alison’s case, she was unable to make any calls due to being unconscious. We have teamed up with an amazing company to help make riding at home and out and about safer. Whether you ride alone or in company we can not recommend Ridersmate enough.
Ridersmate is the world’s only dedicated GPS safety and tracking device that automatically texts your loved ones in the event of an accident! The device clips to you and your saddle and should you fall the device separates and sends your exact GSP location to three of your pre-selected contacts. You can override this in the event of a false alarm and for added peace of mind there is also an SOS button which can be used if you feel threatened as a rider. The device can even continue to track your horse should they, like Indie, decide to leave you.
The second you fall off your ride and suffer a serious injury, the clock starts ticking. Now, it’s a race against time to provide you with the expert, specialist medical care you need. It’s what’s known as ‘The Golden Hour’ – that crucial first 60 minutes after an accident when it’s absolutely vital that you receive effective treatment. When you fall off, Ridersmate springs into action. You can relax, safe in the knowledge that your loved ones know exactly where you are, and that medical experts are on their way to help you as quickly as possible.
Alison was so lucky to be found and received medical attention and Indie was unharmed.
We are offering Ridersmate at a special rate to try and encourage all horse riders to ‘Ride Safe’. Learn More Here.
